I wanted to carry a briefcase
Jeanne M. Sullivan, Co-Founder of StarVest Partners shares her favorite childhood moments.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
Every day after school, I would sit with my mom and she would ask me about my day - we would talk about what went right or upside down and how to "fix it" for the next time.
Do you remember a mentor who influenced your life?
At a young age? Yes - a wonderful teacher who supported and encouraged me .
If you could do anything now, what would you do? Why?
I would go to MIT and get my engineering degree and wear the "Brass Rat"!
What is the best investment your parents made in/for you?
Creating a wonderful, large family - our very own network of love and friendship among 8 kids!
What did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
I met someone in high school who worked for a major advertising agency and I became fascinated with that role. My dad told me to be a teacher - I said, "I want to carry a brief case". Funny enough, I do love to teach and carry a brief case.
What is the one piece of advice you would give a young person today?
Early on, sort out your passions and aim to understand your "Super Powers". Then, map that against the professional choices out there by exploring, talking to people, being curious. This is a formula for professional and personal success and happiness.
What is the one thing you hope a child might learn from you?
That the STEM sectors - studying those, can lead to many professional choices.
What has been the most rewarding part of your work?
As a long time tech investor - meeting so many incredible and talented entrepreneurs.
How do you hope to leave a better world for the future?
I am having a blast showing people of "all ages" that they too can be an entrepreneur if they wish. So, if I can create economic vitality - THAT is important to me - to "unleash someone's potential" is thrilling.
What is one experience you would like to gift to a child?
I am gifted to be able to "hear" someone's passion or "see" someone's abilities and show them how to create a professional opportunity over time.
